Brand Loyal or Label Whore

During the last few weeks, I've been on the hunt for a gently used, authentic, Louis Vuitton Speedy 35 handbag. There are some amazing deals, well kind of, on eBay but the eBay newbies continue to drive the prices up with their relentless bidding. What starts out as a $50 score turns into a $500 fiasco. (insert eye rolls here).

Then I wondered in my rational mind, why do I need a LV bag? Am I being pretentious, hauty, extra, or just brand loyal? Probably a bit of it all.

I probably pondered this for a few minutes and thought, well I am a creature of habit and I am particular about a few brands. I always buy:
  • Gain laundry detergent
  • Dawn dish washing liquid
  • Johnson's Baby Lotion
  • Glade Plug Ins
Also, I'd prefer to always drive a BMW. After my first BMW, I swore off other cars because no car drives like a BMW. Since then, I've had an Infiniti and an Acura. I HATED the Infinit and gave them the blues for the entire 11 months I had the car. I then bought an Acura. It's reliable, drives ok, and definitely long lasting but it's NOT a BMW by any means.

Does that make me brand loyal or Label Whore?

FLASHBACK....

I first experienced true label whores when I went to college. Whew, those NYC chics would drop the name of everything they wore down to their drawls. Some of the stuff I hadn't ever heard of like Sergio Valentino jeans and Parasuco Jeans. I quickly gave them the O_o.

OK, back on task, are you brand loyal or a label whore?

To be honest, a bit of both. I love designer pieces that are well made and classic but I HATE the price tag. I love to sift thru crossroads on the designer rack because i can find really nice pieces for cheap! Recently I was at the crossroads in stockton (which is an outlet) and i picked up a DVF red dress that fit perfect for 12 bucks! I also got a DVF beaded cruise dress for 12 dollars...

So I'd call myself a cheap skate label whore.

Clothes wise I can do both name brand and cheap brands. If I buy a designer it will be something that won't go out of style even if it does I will still be wearing it until it comes back. Now my shoes I am very particular about them I only buy name brand of those because my feet are wide and the cheap shoes won't do me any good. That's why I own less than 10 pairs lol. Product wise especially when it comes to my food I will buy name brand. Only Hellman mayonnaise, only classico spaghetti sauce etc.

good post, sis! well, i have to say i am a loyal brand buyer, not to say that i wouldn't explore other labels. i also think that whatever i buy matches my style and lifestyle. my sister gave me a LV never full bag for my birthday last year, and i really didn't know what to do with it. i mean, of course, i know it's a purse, but it's not something that i'd purchase on my own. to this day, i still love my coach purses - they are classic and definitely me.

for clothing, definitely a brand loyal person here because i am short, especially for jeans, i only buy them at one place, always have since 2002 - american eagle. most of my stuff, i get at the gap or banana republic. on days i feel very trendy'ish, i go to forever 21 and H&M. other than that, i stick to what i know feels good and looks good on me :)

i am that way too with certain household brands - only northern bathroom tissues touches my ass, johnson and johnson q-tips to clean my ears, all scent-free detergent (because i am blessed with 5 million allergies), hoover vacuum, etc.

Interesting topic! I think I'm more of a loyal brand kinda girl mostly out of habit.

I'm brand loyal on the whole but I think it's always good to try out new designers and switch it up a bit with high end and low end stuff!

Lots of love!

I would say I am Brand Loyal. When it comes to somethings you have to get the best. For the LV bags I have 2 and although they cost me a fortune I consider them an investment as well as a item I rewarded myself with for certain accomplishments I made. I totally get your preference of cars, its like once you experience high quality you want to keep experiencing it. I say get the bag, you will love it and it will always make you smile when you look at it :-)

Thanks for your commentary ladies. Welcome Fede and Biana... off to check out your blogs soon.

I did score another awesome tote tonight from another blogger. Post coming soon.

I say the difference from being brand loyal and a label whore is when you can't really afford something but you get it anyway.

There are certain brands of clothing that I will pay for. I will search many a consignment shop for them though. I just can't part with some of the money needed to purchase some of the brands that I love. Classic clothing I spend the money on. They never go out of style and are true investments and will build your wardrobe as staples.

I am kinda both... I like name brands because most seem to be better quality. I am a firm beliver in designer bags. They have warranties and don't fall apart on you. So get the LV!!! I have the Damier Azur and its so classic! buy it before the next price increase!

It would be hypocrite-me to say that i don't love authentic LV bags. It is really the purchasing power of someone to buy such expensive bag. If i have the means why not? Maybe i can classify myself as practical.
